‘Stomach torn open and bowels taken out’; Nitara speaks
Nitara speaks – Nitara’s journey from male to female was very painful. A native of Chavarkod, Varkala, Nitara was born as the eldest son in her family. After completing her IT education after completing Plus Two, Nitara found her livelihood by doing many jobs like mechanics. Nitara says that she noticed the changes in herself in her childhood. Nitara has a childhood that she doesn’t like to remember. Nitara had to face many mental problems from her friends, relatives and locals.
During his studies she was in a situation where she hesitated to face even his classmates. Nitara says, “My friends came and put their hands on my shoulders and grabbed my breasts. On the way to the bus stand, they pulled my shirt off in the rubber plantation and tried to torture me.” At the age of 6, she was physicaly assaulted by her relative. During her studies, she first faced teasing from her teacher. Nitara said that the teacher used to joke about her to other children.
Chanthupot, Akkachi and other locals started teasing her by calling her many names and eventually she left home to join the transgender community in Aluva when she did not accept the woman in her at home. After 17 days, on the complaint of the family, the police contacted Nitara and asked her to come home. After reaching the country, Nitara was forced into a car and treated at a mental health center in Kollam. He was treated there for 15 days. Then he came out and left the house again.
Nitara says that when she was gay, she had a love affair that ended and is now in love with a person she met through Facebook. She is the person who helped him in many situations and now in Gulf. A chat on Facebook led to friendship and then love.
Despite her family’s objections, pains, taunts and violence, Nitara finally transformed from a man to a woman after 4 surgeries. Nitara also tells about her ordeal during the re-operation, in which she was anesthetized during the major surgery to tear open the stomach and remove the intestines, but she fainted during the surgery and felt the pain of the operation and the opening of the stomach with the surgical blade. After all the pain, Nitara is happy that her wish has come true.
Nitara wants to provide a steady income for the transgender community by getting a job after being financially backward.
