There was a plan led by director Bhadran to remaster Mohanlal’s career-defining film Sphadikam and re-release the 4k version all over Kerala in March 2020. Re release did not happen due to covid. Bhadran had recently made an announcement that the Crystal for K Dolby Atmos version will be released soon.
After this, the HD re-mastering version of Ezhimala Poonchola from Sphatikam movie has reached YouTube. Shree Movies, which owns the YouTube rights to the song, launched a YouTube channel called Matinee Now that regularly releases remastered versions. After this, director Bhadran came forward to protest. Bhadran said that he bought the original negative from the producer Shogun Mohan and is remastering the 4K version.
Bhadra’s response
I came across a video claiming to have remastered the song “Ezhimala Poonchola” from the movie Sphadikam. Exciting comments from fans were also seen under it. Happy!!
We don’t know what kind of remastering they have done… I don’t know who did it either… I was annoyed by the comments that it would be better to watch the movie in the same format. Geometrics Film House, a company that I am involved in, is in the final stages of getting a perfect remastering from the original negative in 10 times quality and technical excellence from producer R. Mohan and bringing it to theaters.
Chennai, 4frames sound company is preparing it for theatrical release with its 4k atmos mixing and interesting add-ons.
About matinee now crystal song remastering
Please note that this remastered version of Matinee Now has no relation with Bhadran sir’s remastered version which is being prepared for release. His version could be more superior in terms of picture and audio quality. Matinee Now is owned by Kollam-based Shree Movies Company owner Somanpillai and Ajith, while Shankar is overseeing the remastering work. The original negatives are scanned and delivered to the viewer by restoring the frames. Unais Atiwad, who leads the Matinee Now team, said that the loss of the negatives of films like Kilukum and Devasuram was a setback and efforts are being made to remaster more films and bring them to the audience.
